How Many Stars Should I Assign?

When setting up your chores and rewards, the number of stars should reflect how big or important the task is. In general, we recommend assigning stars based on the weight or effort level of each event.

For Rewards, think of them as the “goals” children can earn by collecting stars. Rewards should take several chores’ worth of stars to achieve:

  • Small rewards (e.g., extra screen time, a small treat) → 10–20 stars
  • Medium rewards (e.g., choosing dinner, movie night) → 30–50 stars
  • Big rewards (e.g., new toy, family outing) → 50+ stars

The key is balance — chores should feel achievable, and rewards should feel motivating. You can always adjust the number of stars later based on your family’s routine and what keeps your kids excited and engaged!
